BEHIND BANDIT READS

My history as a law enforcement officer wasn’t typical of most cops.  One of my major assignments was re-writing the police manual when I held the rank of police officer.  It was a daunting task.  Detailed instructions for a wide variety of situations had to be put in writing so my fellow officers could follow department policy and stay out of trouble.  As a sergeant I was given an assignment to oversee the construction of a substation, despite having no experience in that field.  Our city wanted to start a mounted patrol unit.  Once again, despite no horse experience I was called upon.  At the lieutenant rank, I had the privilege of being assigned to get a brand-new law enforcement training center up and running.  Within one week of being handed the keys, the place was hosting its first classes.

The details of these and many other assignments were enough to drive a person nuts.  Often, I would go home at the end of the day and tell my wife, Jan, “I’m going to write a book about this one day.”  Much of it would merit being memorialized in a book but readers would claim it should be placed in the fiction section because those types of things that I experienced and dealt with just couldn’t possibly happen.

Five years into my retirement Jan said to me, “I thought you were going to write a book someday.”

Challenge accepted.  However, the books I’m writing now, the Killing Time series, are about fictitious characters investigating today’s real-world crime issues.

Hopefully, readers will enjoy books that aren’t filled with profanity and gratuitous sex.  The characters aren’t imbued with superhuman powers enabling them to shoot the wings off a gnat at 50 yards.  They use common investigative techniques and solid cop reasoning to solve crime, just like officers and deputies do on a daily basis throughout this great nation of ours.

My sincerest hope is that you have an enjoyable read and forgive mistakes you may come across.  Any mistakes are mine and mine alone.
